By Salam Kareem
I hate fireworks
I used to enjoy it
But, not anymore
I still think it’s fun
But, still cannot enjoy it
I was just a little girl
But since that war
Fireworks makes me sad
It brings tears to my eyes
I feel my heart squeezed
Somewhere in the world
Kids take shelter
Was never in a war zone
Have never heard a bomb
But I was old enough to feel
I was old enough to see
Somewhere in the world
Kids take shelter
Yes it was on screen
Miles and miles a way
But it was real
Gaza under fire
Oh, God not again
For most of the world
It was just foreign names
Places where bombs explodes
Alshujaeya, Beit Hanoun, Khan Yunis, Rafah and many many more
But I have different stories
Glorious… glorious stories
People with dreams and hopes
Families trying to survive
In a place like no other
Standing alone…
In the face of oppression
In the face of death
Are you still there?
I can see you bleeding
Is it a sign of death or a sign of life?
I’m afraid you’re not the only
You’re one of many
Here and there around the world
Where homes and dreams are destroyed
Where a loud sound means death
Duck down and take shelter.
Sweet little kids
My kids run to windows
Looking for fireworks
I feel my heart squeezed
Somewhere in the world
Kids take shelter
Duck down and take shelter.
Sweet little kids
