Pro-Palestinian demonstrations held all over America, poll suggests most young Americans feel Israeli actions are unjustified

Several demonstrations against the Israeli aggression in Gaza were held across the United States last Saturday, with the public outburst of support suggesting Washington’s pro-Israel take on the situation is becoming increasingly unpopular.

Over tens of thousands Americans protested in front of the White House, travelling from all over the country in buses to join the rally. Demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and chanted “free Palestine” in the capital.
Thousands of Americans protested in Austin, Texas, where a plane flew with the message that read “save Gaza free Palestine”.

Several hundreds of people joined a march in the west-coast city of Los Angeles, California, and closed down the city’s busiest boulevards, demanding an end to Israeli war crimes.

Support for the Palestinian cause in the United States has been revitalized by the participation of student activists in the recent years.According to a poll conducted by Popular American consulting firm Gallup, young people are almost twice as likely to back Palestinian rights over the Israeli occupation. The poll also suggests that the number of Americans who feel that Israel’s actions in Gaza are justified is only slightly more than those who feel the actions are unjust.

However, among those aged under 30, 51% say that the Israeli aggression in Gaza is unjustified, more than twice the 25% who feel it is justified. Similarly, among people of color, 49% say that the Israeli aggression in Gaza is unjustified, while 15% feel it is justified.

Additionally, the poll also suggested that 65% of Republicans feel that the Israeli aggression is justified. It also found out that 47% Democrats support the Palestinian cause, significantly more than the 31% who oppose it.

The poll, based on telephonic interviews conducted on June 22nd and 23rd with a 1,016 adults sampled at random from all over the United States, indicates support for Israel waning among America’s next generation.
