Political coalition claims Iran planning to “export fundamentalism” after revolutionary gains in Yemen

A political coalition on Monday said that an Iranian lawmaker, a close associate of Ali Hosseini Khamenei, made remarks which revealed the regime’s role in developments in Yemen and plans for “exporting terrorism and fundamentalism”.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) quoted Alireza Zakani referring to the Islamic Republic’s plan of “’unifying Muslims by Islamic Revolution”.

On its website, the NCRI quoted Zakani saying, “A phenomenon more colossal than Lebanon is unfolding: Out of Yemen’s 20 provinces, 14 have fallen into the hands of revolutionaries and 90% of Sanaa has also fallen… With this, they have changed all the equations. After the victory in Yemen, surely it is Saudi Arabia’s turn since these two countries share a 2000 kilometer border. Besides, today, two million organized armed men are in Yemen… Today, the Islamic Revolution has taken over three Arabic capitals and in a while it will occupy Sanaa as well and the system to unify Muslims will become operational. The United States, Britain, France, Germany and Jordan, as well as many other countries, attempted to break Syria and the only country that stood up and disrupted this program was Iran”.

Additionally, Zakani said that if Commander of the “terrorist” Quds Force Qassem Suleimani “had reached Baghdad a few hours late, Baghdad would have fallen. Similarly, in case of absence of an Iranian model and will, Syria would have fallen. After his victory in the elections Bashar al-Assad said that instead of congratulating me, go and congratulate the leadership in Iran”, the NCRI quoted state-run website Tabnak quoted as saying.

The NCRI claims the remarks demonstrate the regime’s intentions to exploit the current crisis in the Middle East to compensate for the heavy blow it received after the fall of Nuri al-Maliki in Iraq and use it as leverage to spread its influence.
