Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International airport is the world’s worst airport, while Singapore Changi International Airport is the best airport in the world, a recent poll suggests. Vancouver International Airport ranked a commendable 5th on the list of best airports of the world.
The Guide to Sleeping at Airports poll was conducted in airports all over the world, and surveyed travelers on comfort, conveniences, cleanliness and customer service.
Islamabad topped the list of world’s worst airports, with a traveler suggesting that the airport was like a “central prison” because of all the “aggressive security checks”, dirt and the crowds.
“Travelers have also complained about the airport’s inability to handle passengers for over a decade – and thankfully, it seems the end of ISB is near”.
“A new airport is slated to be completed for mid-2016, which should dramatically improve air travel to the city”, the site said.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Singapore Changi International Airport was voted the best airport in the world – it maintained its position on top of the list for the 18th straight year. Travelers were quoted saying that they enjoyed the several sleep lounges available in the terminals, in addition to themed gardens, spas, gyms, swimming pools, movie theatres, free Wi-Fi and over 800 convenient mobile charging points.
Vancouver International Airport also ranked high on the best airports list at no.5, with travelers enjoying the art exhibits, rest zones, food options, resting rooms, and the adjoining Fairmont hotel’s spa and gym.
“While your best sleep will probably be on the armrest free seating found at the gates, the airport has recently installed several new seating options including seats with footrests, a number of new TV lounges and padded couch blocks that can be moved around and pieced together as required”, the site said.
King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and the Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal rounded of the second and third positions in the worst airports list.
Paris’s Beauvais-Tille International Airport and Frankfurt Hahn International Airport found places on the worst airports list owing to their location, almost 88 and 120 kilometers away from their primary cities.
New York’s infamous LaGuardia International ranked 10 on the worst airport list, due to its security lines, poor restaurant selection, drab décor, lackluster cleanliness, notoriously unhelpful staff and counterintuitive layout.
