Gaza: Children killed by Israeli tank fire and air strikes, Palestinian death toll stands at 1,060 after Day 21 of brutal violence

Several children were among those killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza on Monday, bringing the Palestinian death toll due to Israel’s military operation in the Palestinian enclave over the past 21 days to 1,060.

Three children and seven others were killed by Israeli raids across the Gaza Strip, emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said. The children, and two others, were killed when a tank shelling broke through a house in the town of Jabaliya. Another person was killed in an air strike in Gaze, while four others were killed in and around the city of Khan Yunis, Qudra said.

Earlier in the day, rounds exchanged by both sides led to the deaths of eight Palestinian children in a refugee camp in Gaza. A missile slammed into a public playground at the Shati UN refugee camp, killing at least two others and wounding 46, most of them children, emergency services said. According to local sources, several missiles were fired at a motorized rickshaw near the playground.

Reportedly, bodies of seven children were sent to Shifa hospital, the largest medical complex in Gaza, while many more bodies were being brought into the hospital. Shortly after, another missile struck a building inside the hospital compound, causing property damage but no casualties.

However, the Israeli army has denied firing at the Shati camp or at Shifa hospital.

“We have not fired on the hospital or on Shati refugee camp.We know that Hamas was firing from both areas and the missiles struck these places”, Major Arye Shalicar said.

He also denied reports of a drone strike, saying, “That’s a lie. We have drones there but they are only for surveillance”.

Earlier on Monday, a four-year-old was one of two killed by tank fire in Gaza, medical sources said. According to Qudra, four-year-old Samih Ijneid died when a shell hit his house to the east of Jabaliya.
