Gaza: Brutal Israeli campaign still on after 14 days of unrelenting assault, death toll goes beyond 600

On Tuesday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at the time of writing, declared at least 624 deaths since the Israeli onslaught on Gaza began over two weeks ago. It added that over 3,750 people have been wounded by the Israeli attack.

In the latest attack, air strikes caused the deaths of at least 13 children and women in Gaza, medics said. The 40 fatalities of Tuesday took the death toll of Palestinians to nearly 600, Gaza’s emergency services said, and that of Israel to 29, 27 of them soldiers.

Three women and one child, one of the women pregnant, were killed in separate air strikes in Zeitun and Beit Hanun, emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said.

An elderly woman was killed with her brother and several others in raids targeting Al-Maghazi, Bureij and Rafah. Earlier in the day, a series of air strikes had killed seven others in the enclave. Tuesday’s death toll also included 10 women and 3 children, Qudra added.

On Tuesday, a UN school in central Gaza providing shelter to displaced Palestinians came under fire as a team was investigating damage incurred from the previous day, a UN official said.

The official added that a team, which had gotten Israeli clearance, was at a school that the UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, had run in Al-Maghazi. However, the school was struck by Israeli tank shelling on Tuesday afternoon.

The official also said that holes were blown through the walls of the school’s compound and that the school’s gates were blown off. The official added that no was injured by the strike, and that the school was evacuated. UNRWA then submitted a formal letter to Israel regarding the shelling.

The UNRWA is protecting over 100,000 people at over 60 schools all over the Gaza Strip. Many Palestinians in border areas of the enclave have been warned by Israel to abandon their home, but most of them feel have nowhere to go.
