BBC announces 2014’s “100 Women” program

The BBC has renewed its “100 Women” program that focuses on representing women in its international news coverage. The one hundred women chosen this year has more scientists, women working in the arts, and a considerable number of Muslim and Arab women in comparison to last year’s list. Additionally, over one-fifth of the women are under the age of 25. The list includes names like Obiageli Ezekwesili, the former Nigerian Minister leading the campaign to rescue 250 children captured by militant group Boko Haram, and Austrian drag queen Conchita Wurst, who sparked an outcry of love after winning the Eurovision contest in May. The women will be sharing their thoughts and experiences, their opinions on education, the upbringing of girls, and the status of women in science, entrepreneurship and war. The interviews will be broadcast on television, radio and on the internet; the BBC has invited people to follow the conversation with the handle #100Women of Twitter and Facebook.
