International non-governmental charity Save the Children on Wednesday placed a full-page advert in several British newspapers, listing names of the 373 Palestinian children killed by the Israeli offensive in Gaza as a part of their campaign for a permanent truce in the region.
The black-and-white advertisement carries the names given out by the Palestinian Ministry of Health and United Nations (OCHA) had said died between July 8th and August 3rd.
It advert invited readers to send text messages to force a permanent truce deal “for the children of Gaza and Israel”.
A fragile ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave entered its second day on Wednesday as Palestinian and Israeli delegations prepared for talks in Cairo to extend the truce.
In a separate statement, the charity said that the public health system in the Gaza Strip was close to collapsing and that over 500,000 people were displaced by the aggression.
“For the sake of children and their families, we are hoping that this ceasefire holds. It is desperately needed, as essential services in Gaza have all but collapsed and we are struggling to reach the most vulnerable children caught in this conflict”, David Hassell from Save the Children said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Foreign Ministers from Arab nations, including those from Jordan and Egypt, will visit Gaza “soon” to show solidarity for Palestine, Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi said on Wednesday. They will also assess property damage in the enclave, Arabi said.
“An Arab ministerial delegation will go to Gaza soon in solidarity”, he said.
The delegating so far includes the Foreign Ministers of Kuwati, Morocco, Jordan Egypt and Arabi himself and is expected to expand. The 72-hour ceasefire began on Tuesday brought temporary peace from the conflict which has reportedly cost Gaza $ 6 billion in damage, Palestinian deputy economy minister Taysir Amro said in Ramallah. A more accurate assessment will be carried out once there is more permanent peace, Amro said.
