A new poll conducted by the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs suggest that 75% Jewish Israelis oppose a potential state of Palestine based on the international borders in 1967, the division of Jerusalem, and Israel’s withdrawal from Jordan Valley.
The body has been conducting opinion polls on the Palestinian-Israeli peace process since 2005; according to the latest poll it conducted in October, 75% of Jewish Israelis still oppose the division of Jerusalem and Israel withdrawing from the Jordan Valley.
The rise of extremist group Islamic State (IS) in the Middle East has also made the Israeli public less ready for ceding territory in the West Bank. Around 70% report that the IS had affect their opinion, with 17% saying that it makes them less ready for any concessions and 5% saying that the IS made them more ready for concessions.
Around 75% Israeli Jews also oppose a state of Palestine if it requires them to withdraw from the Jordan Valley. Almost three-quarters of Israeli Jews disagree with any potential replacement of IDF troops in the Jordan Valley by international forces – however, only 52% who identify as the “left” oppose such a replacement.
Overall, 76% of Israeli Jews oppose Palestinian statehood if it causes the division of Jerusalem.
