On Friday, the FIFA’s top judge announced that they will not be able to release the full report about the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups for legal reasons.
Many people like Michael Garcia the former U.S. federal prosecutor who led the investigation for the report asked FIFA to share it with the public.
Hans-Joachim Eckert, chairman of the FIFA’s adjudicatory chamber said in an interview published in FIFA.com website “Publishing the report in full would put the FIFA ethics committee and FIFA itself in a very difficult situation legally.
He added “What is more, we have to respect the personal rights of the people mentioned in the report, which in the case of full publication of the report would in all likelihood not be possible” .
He also said that he is preparing a statement that should be released “by mid-November at the latest.” That will contain “a summary of the main findings, conclusions and recommendations of the report, as well as a brief evaluation”.
Fifa has been put under spotlight following allegations says that the Qatari former soccer chief paid millions of dollars to national federation chiefs to back Qatar to win the right to host the 2022 World Cup.
Garcia urged FIFA to be more transparent and ” authorize the appropriate publication” of the report. Also, UEFA president Michel Platini and FIFA vice president Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein of Jordan called for publishing the report.
Qatar faces pressure over the dates of the world cup because of the high summer temperatures in the Gulf Area, and claims about exploiting and abusing migrant workers. Qatar has strongly denied all these claims .
